Lenovo Community Heroes

The NC Courage Community Hero program, presented by Lenovo, honors individuals in the Triangle region who go above and beyond through selfless work or volunteerism. These heroes make a meaningful impact in their communities through acts of charity, dedicated service, and inspiring leadership.

Pat Nelli
President and CEO of Children's Flight of Hope

Since stepping into her role in 2020, Pat has led the prganization through tremendous growth-strengthening infrastructure, expanding awareness, and doubling its mission impact from 1,300 flights in 2022 to more than 2,700 in 2024. Her leadership has united staff, board members, and community partners to deliver life-saving flights for children in need of specialized medical care.

Founder and Executive Director of The No Woman, No Girl Initiative.

Since 2021, Shirnetta's nonprofit has worked to ensure no woman or girl goes without access to basic hygiene products, already reaching more than 8,000 women, girls, and families with essential resources and hope.
Her vision also includes disaster response through Hope on the Ground, recently expanding statewide to support families after Hurricane Helene.

Kendra is a one-woman shop at her United Way, as well as a board member for United Way of North Carolina. When Hurricane Helene hit, she jumped into action volunteering several hours and many late nights to processing incoming donations to ensure funds were getting to the right entities for relief and recovery. Kendra is not only a gero for her local community but for the state of North Carolina as well.

In addition to his role on the board of Harmony, Darryl owns the local breakfast restaurant Morning Rolls. He is also working on a new not-for-profit endeavor that serves foster children. His work puts him at the forefront of the battle for inclusivity and equity for underserved communities.

Ashley McCumber is the Executive Director of Meals on Wheels of Wake County — the largest program of its kind in the state. With nearly 30 years of nonprofit leadership across the country, in roles with Meals on Wheels, The Food Bank, Ashley has dedicated his career to fighting hunger, supporting seniors, and strengthening communities. We’re proud to recognize Ashley as this month’s Lenovo Community Hero.

Meredith is grateful for the opportunity to serve The Hope Center at Pullen and help light a path toward a safe and stable future for former foster youth. She is an experienced administrator and has developed and shaped programs that support at-risk youth for over 20 years. Meredith first join the Hope Center team in 2014, serving as the Program Coordinator, to spearhead the development of their Teen Programs.
