Introducing 5 in 5, where we ask your favorite NC Courage players five questions in five minutes, plus it only takes you five minutes to read! This week’s 5 in 5 is with NC Courage rookie, Ashley Hatch. Hatch is a 21 year-old forward from Gilbert, Arizona. She played collegiately at Brigham Young University where she scored 47 goals and tallied 21 assists for the Cougars in her four years on the team. The Courage selected Ashley Hatch second overall in the 2017 NWSL Draft, and was the first draft selection in NC Courage history. So far this season, she’s made appearances in four of the Courage’s five matches. The Gilbert, Arizona native was also invited to the U.S. Women’s National Team Soccer camp on October 15, 2016 and is currently in the U-23 USWNT pool.â 1. Describe your draft night experience, and your reaction to going 2nd overall to the Courage? “It was an awesome experience. I was looking forward to it the whole month my name was in the draft. I really had no idea where I was gonna go. I heard rumors of going second but you never really know because draft day is kind of crazy. Once they said my name I was super excited and honored that the Courage would have the faith in me to contribute to the team. It was an overall dream come true”. 1. What do you do to prepare for a game? “Just getting in the right mindset. I usually just go with how I feel. I try to eat enough but not too soon before the game. Usually a solid breakfast, solid lunch, and then snacking until the game. I usually have to put my socks on a certain way and tie my shoes a certain way but besides that it’s pretty casual. 1. Who is your favorite athlete of all time? “Lolo Jones. She’s always been one of my idols. She’s very resilient, always works hard, and stays very positive. She definitely has a great mindset”. 1. What is your go to Netflix/Hulu series? “I love watching Friends. Anytime it’s on TV or I feel like watching something, I just turn on Friends”. 1. If you could have any one superpower, which would you choose and why? “I would say flying. Just because I feel like you could get to places quicker and it would just be really cool”. Be sure to catch Hatch and her first-place North Carolina Courage as they return to Sahlen’s Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park on Sunday, May 21st at 4 p.m. to take on the Chicago Red Stars.
