CARY, NC (January 12, 2022) – North Carolina Courage goalkeeper Casey Murphy has been called to the US Women’s National Team January training camp, the club announced today. The camp will be held in Austin, Texas from January 19 through January 28.
Murphy has now earned her fourth call-up to the US Women’s National Team, following a dazzling performance in a series of friendlies against the Matildas in November 2021 and registering her first appearances with the senior team. The Rutgers alumna combined for nine saves across the two contests, turning many heads with her potential to become the future of goalkeeping for the USWNT. Vlatko Andonovksi reflected these sentiments following Murphy’s impressive showing, stating that the goalkeeper gave the team confidence and calling her first cap ‘the first of many.’
Arguably one of the most impressive goalkeepers in the NWSL during the 2021 season, Murphy posted eleven clean sheets in 24 matches played, tying a league record for clean sheets in an individual season set by Adrianna Franch. She also maintained an 82% success rate in saves while collecting 33 catches, fourteen punches, and 20 clearances, and ended the season as the league leader in saves, totaling 109 saves over the course of the regular and postseason. During the quarterfinal round of the NWSL playoffs, Murphy broke her own record for most saves in an individual playoff match, making 13 saves against the Washington Spirit.
