CARY, N.C. (Feb. 7, 2023) – The North Carolina Courage have acquired Japanese midfielder Narumi Miura (NAH-ROO-me me-OR-UH) in a transfer from Tokyo Verdy Beleza of the Yogibo WE League. Miura, who has several appearances for the Japanese National Team, was acquired for an agreed upon transfer fee and will be under contract with the Courage through the 2024 season pending receipt of her P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC).
Miura made her senior national team debut in 2018 and has 23 appearances for the JFA, including the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games that were played in 2021. The 25-year-old has been playing in the Yogibo WE League since 2016.
“We are very excited to add someone of Narumi’s quality and experience to our club. She is someone with an extremely high soccer IQ and technical quality that fits into how we want to play. We look forward to the day she arrives here in North Carolina,” said head coach Sean Nahas.
With the addition of Miura, the Courage now have players that have served on six senior National Team rosters: Brazil (Kerolin Nicoli), Cameroon (Estelle Johnson), Denmark (Rikke Madsen, Mille Gejl), Ireland (Denise O’Sullivan) and the United States (Emily Fox, Casey Murphy). Three of those countries – Brazil, Japan and the United States – will compete in the She Believes Cup later this month.
