CARY, N.C. (October 18, 2018) – NC Courage midfielder Denise O’Sullivan will play with Canberra United of the Westfield W-League on loan from the NC Courage as a guest player during the NWSL offseason, the club announced today.
Under the guest player rule, O’Sullivan will be eligible to play in a maximum of seven games during the 2018/19 W-League season, including finals.
O’Sullivan, the 2018 NC Courage team MVP, appeared in 22 matches and recorded three assists. The Irish international was instrumental in helping the team capture all three trophies won this season, culminating with the 2018 NWSL Championship. On Oct. 1, the club announced that O’Sullivan’s option had been exercised, ensuring that she will return to the club for the 2019 season.
Based in Australia’s capital in New South Wales, Canberra United FC is the only Westfield W-League team that does not have a men’s A-League affiliation. Last season the club finished fifth in the standings, narrowly missing the playoffs. Canberra kick off their season this weekend with a match against reigning champion Melbourne City FC.
