Diana Ordoñez Called to Mexican Women’s National Team Roster for June Camp
CARY, NC (June 12, 2022) — The North Carolina Courage announced today that Diana Ordoñez has been called to represent the Mexican Women’s National Team the side’s June camp. Two friendlies will take place during this window, both against Peru, with the first on June 25 and the second on June 28.
Ordoñez made her debut for Mexico on April 9, scoring two goals in Mexico’s 11-0 win over Anguilla, the first coming in less than a minute after her substitution into the match. She would add a third goal to her total just three days later on April 12 in Mexico’s 6-0 win against Puerto Rico.
The 20-year-old has become a force up front for the Courage, and netted the first regular-season goal of her professional career on the road in Houston on May 29, making her the youngest goal-scorer in Courage history. The forward was selected by the Courage sixth overall in the 2022 NWSL Draft, hailing from the University of Virginia. A Prosper, TX, native, Ordoñez scored 45 goals, 15 of those being game-winners, and tallied 102 points for the Cavaliers. In her freshman and junior year, Ordoñez led the ACC in goals. Indicative of her talents, the forward was named a 2021 MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist, a 2021 All-American by United Soccer Coaches, and was thrice named to the ACC Championship All-Tournament Team.
