Cary, NC (December 3, 2019)- Kristen Hamilton dominated Week 3 of the W-League by recording a hat trick against the Brisbane Roar while on loan to the Western Sydney Wanderers during the NWSL offseason. All four NC Courage players recorded a win during the week.
Western Sydney Wanderers 3-1 Brisbane Roar
It only took 10 minutes for Hamilton to find the back of the net against the Roar. Lynn Williams flew up the left side of the field, defeating her defender, and playing the perfect ball to Hamilton, her NC Courage teammate. Hamilton nearly scored again in the 40th minute. Williams hit a hard shot that deflected off of the Brisbane goalkeeper’s hands and right to Hamilton, who sent it just wide of the net. Five minutes later, Hamilton was sure to bury her second goal of the night off of a long throw-in. Sam Staab sent the ball into the box toward Williams, who used her head to flick the ball to Hamilton. The Wanderers entered halftime up 2-0. Williams had several shots on goal as she looked for her first goal of the W-League season. In the 60th minute, her shot hit the crossbar and came straight down, nearly crossing the goal line. In the 64th minute, Hamilton scored her third and final goal of the night to record her first W-League hat trick. The hat trick was her third of 2019, as she recorded one against the Orlando Pride and one against the Houston Dash during the NWSL season. The goal was nominated for the W-League Goal of the Week. “She’s going to be the player to watch for the rest of the season,” commentator Amy Chapman said about Hamilton. “Scoring a hat trick in that fashion is impressive.” While she did not make any plays on goal, Denise O’Sullivan played an important role in the Wanderers’ midfield during the match. “She’s not been spoken about enough,” said Chapman. “She’s been incredibly strong in the midfield.” Hamilton was the first player to score a hat trick for the Western Sydney Wanderers and she did so in her 100th senior appearance between all leagues combined. Both Hamilton and Williams were named to the Team of the Week for Week 3.
