Cary, NC (December 17, 2019)- With the Western Sydney Wanderers on a bye week, Kaleigh Kurtz was the only NC Courage player to play on loan in the W-League during Week 5. Kurtz and Canberra United took on Perth Glory on Friday, December 13.
In the 15th minute, Kurtz sent a long ball from her own backline over Perth Glory’s defenders. Her Canberra United teammate Simone Charley ran onto the ball, took a few touches, and netted the opening goal of the match. Kurtz earned her first W-League assist on the goal after sending in the perfectly placed ball. In the 59th minute, Perth Glory looked to counter-attack following a corner kick, but Kurtz put her body in front of a shot, slowing down the attack, and forcing the Perth Glory forward to send the ball high over the net. Canberra could not hold onto the lead with a 90th minute Perth Glory goal ending the game at a 1-1 scoreline. Canberra United’s record is 2W-1D-2L and they are in fourth place in the W-League.
