Life in the Bubble for 8-Year-Old Jeremiah McDonald
IMG_6639_large

Jeremiah McDonald isn’t having the typical summer of your average 8-year-old. Instead of going to summer camp, spending time with friends, and attending his mom’s games at WakeMed Soccer Park, Jeremiah gets to spend a month in Herriman, Utah for the NWSL Challenge Cup. We caught up with Jeremiah via FaceTime for an exclusive interview with the young celebrity to get his view of the bubble and life in Utah. The question on the mind of anyone who has watched a match thus far in the tournament, has Jeremiah played on the playground in the corner of Zions Bank Stadium? The answer is yes! The bright colored jungle gym is hard to miss as it is displayed so prominently on the CBS All Access broadcast. There has been so much attention on the structure that it even has its own Twitter account. Maybe Jeremiah’s mom will be the first to celebrate a goal by going down the slide, something that has been suggested by fans on Twitter since the tournament’s opening match. Jeremiah’s typical day in Utah starts with summer school. He works on his reading before heading to training with his mom. At training, he finds a good spot to sit and play his game Robloxs on his Nintendo Switch. He spends a lot of time with his mom and her teammates, his favorite of which to spend time with is Jaelene Daniels. Food has been a topic brought up across many sports leagues as they start their seasons and form their bubbles. Jeremiah says the food at the NWSL Challenge Cup has been good. He specifically has enjoyed the Chinese food. Does Jeremiah miss his friends at home? Of course, he does. He has made a new friend though in his next-door neighbor, Caiden. Caiden’s mom Sarah Gorden plays for the Chicago Red Stars. “I made really good friends with Caiden,” Jeremiah said. Jeremiah’s mom made her 2020 debut on Monday night and has plenty of time to make her mark on the NWSL Challenge Cup. There’s no doubt that many more memories are to come for Jeremiah as the tournament enters the knockout stage. He will be cheering on #14 from the stands while wearing his jersey that reads “Mommy”. Of course, if he plays soccer one day, he says he wants to wear #14 too, just like his super mom.
