After a year and a half of excelling in the NWSL, NC Courage forward Lynn Williams has once again been called upon by the United States National Team. Williams has been named to the 24-player training camp roster by new USWNT head coach Vlatko Andonovski for the final two friendlies of the year. “With a new coach comes new opportunities,” said Williams. “I am excited to be back in the environment and hopefully I can do something to stay in it.” The speedy forward last spent time with the USWNT during the 2018 SheBelieves Cup. Despite scoring four goals in 19 appearances with the team, Williams was left out of camps leading up to the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Instead, the California native played two full NWSL seasons, scoring 26 goals, earning NWSL Golden Boot runner-up both seasons, and has scored more NWSL goals than any American in the league. Williams has led the Courage to two NWSL Shields and NWSL Championships since her last time with the USWNT. She was also named to the NWSL Second XI in 2018 and 2019. The forward has been excelling in every way possible, helping her grow a large fan base in North Carolina and around the league. “I have seen more and more fan growth and support,” added Williams. “I am taken aback by how much support there has been from me getting called in again. Once you are out for that long you think that people forget about you and it was nice to see that they haven’t.” USWNT and Courage fans will once again have the opportunity to see Williams on the pitch alongside her friends and teammates Sam Mewis, Jessica McDonald, and Abby Dahlkemper. “I am excited that I am able to go through camp with familiar faces and friends,” Williams said. ”If I am having a hard time or a good time they will be right there with me.” Fans can watch Williams, Mewis, McDonald, and Dahlkemper against Sweden on Thursday, November 7 at 7:30 p.m. on Fox Sports 1 and on Sunday, November 10 at 8:00 p.m. against Costa Rica on ESPN2.
