Cary, NC (February 11, 2019) – The North Carolina Courage announced today they have acquired Wake Forest University defender, Ally Haran. Per club policy, no further details of the transaction were disclosed. Haran will join a North Carolina Courage defensive line that clinched the NWSL record in 2018 for fewest goals allowed with 17.
“Ally has a fantastic opportunity to stake her claim to a starting job,” said head coach, Paul Riley. “She has the athleticism, mindset and ability on the ball to fit right in with our environment. At the end of the day, players must love the process of doing their best every day, all of the time. She will be coming into a nurturing, curious environment and it’s our job to get the best out of her. She has many great tools and in a World Cup year she has a brilliant chance to elevate her game and be a key impact member of our squad.” During her four years at Wake Forest University, Haran started 66 games as a defender. She played a total of 6,101 minutes for the Demon Deacons and contributed to a backline that had 11 shutouts during her senior season. She was named team captain during her junior and senior seasons. Haran tallied four goals and three assists on the attacking side of the field during her college career. As a freshman, Haran participated with the United States U-19 National Team and at two U-20 National Team camps. After graduating, Haran signed a contract with UMF Selfoss, a professional team in the top league in Iceland. She played every minute of 19 games with the team during the 2018 season. Haran had two goals in the 19 games including the difference maker in a 1-0 win against FH Hafnarfjordur on August 9. Haran joins a growing North Carolina Courage roster that currently includes goalkeeper Katelyn Rowland, defenders Abby Dahlkemper, Abby Erceg, and Kaleigh Kurtz, midfielders Crystal Dunn, Sam Mewis, Heather O’Reilly, Cari Roccaro, Meredith Speck, McCall Zerboni, and Julia Spetsmark, and forward Lynn Williams.
