Cary, NC (Oct. 4, 2019) – The North Carolina Courage will receive its third consecutive NWSL Shield on Saturday, October 12 in a post-game ceremony following the regular-season finale against Sky Blue FC. The match, presented by Coastal Credit Union, will kick off at 7 p.m. at Sahlen’s Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park.
NWSL President Amanda Duffy will be on hand to present the Shield to the team. The NC Courage earned the 2019 NWSL Shield by defeating Utah Royals FC 3-0 on September 21 in Sandy Utah. The Shield is awarded to the team with the best regular-season record and has been awarded to the Courage in 2017 and 2018, as well.
By virtue of winning the Shield, the NC Courage have also earned the top seed in the playoffs and will host their semifinal match on Sunday, October 20, at 1:30 p.m. at Sahlen’s Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park. With one game week left in the regular season, the Courage will face either Megan Rapinoe and Reign FC or Tobin Heath and Portland Thorns. Both teams will be fighting for seeding in their respective games on October 12.
