CARY, N.C. (December 17, 2018) – The North Carolina Courage has traded the rights to 2017 first-round draft pick Darian Jenkins to the Seattle Reign in exchange for Seattle’s First Round Draft Pick (Ninth overall) in the 2019 NWSL College Draft.
Selected at No. 7 in the 2017 NWSL College Draft, Jenkins was the second-ever draft pick for the organization. The dynamic forward from UCLA did not see any action her rookie year as she spent her first season with the team rehabbing from a major leg injury.
Jenkins made her professional debut as a second-half substitute in the NC Courage’s home opener against Portland Thorns FC. She appeared in 13 matches, logging 178 minutes of NWSL action. The Utah native also helped the Courage capture the inaugural Women’s International Championship Cup. She made two appearances, playing 35 minutes and scoring her first professional goal – the game-winner over Paris St. Germain that propelled the team into the final.
With the trade, the NC Courage have the fifth, ninth, 14th and 36th pick in the 2019 NWSL College Draft which will be held on January 10, 2019 at the United Soccer Coaches Convention in Chicago, Illinois.
