Cary, NC (July 26, 2017)- The North Carolina Courage has acquired defender and Norwegian International Nora Holstad, pending receipt of her P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC) the club announced today. Per league and team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“Nora will add defensive depth and strength to our defensive unit,” said head coach Paul Riley. “She is also a multi-use addition to our squad and adds coverage to our defensive midfield area. She has experience, composure on the ball and certainly brings a massive physical element to the game. She has huge international experience and her hunger to be successful in the NWSL bodes well for our team. She is a big addition so late in the season and we look forward to integrating her with the squad once her Euro commitment is complete.”
The 30-year-old comes to the NWSL after competing for Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga since 2014. She appeared in 63 games for Bayern in four seasons, helping the team log nine clean sheets with her on the pitch in their 2016-17 campaign.
Before joining Munich in 2014, Holstad played for a number of Scandinavian teams including FK Larvik, Kolbotn, Linköpings FC, and Arna-Bjørnar. The center-back fits in to the NC Courage’s winning mentality, as she has lifted the Bundesliga trophy with Bayern Munich in 2015 and 2016, the Norwegian Women’s Cup with Kolbotn Fotball in 2007, and the Toppserien league trophy also with Kolbotn Fotball in 2006.
She also holds international experience, as she has competed for the Norwegian Women’s National Team since 2011. Most recently, Holstad competed with her home country during the UEFA Women’s EURO 2017 this summer.
The NC Courage return home to take on Seattle Reign FC at Sahlen’s Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park on Saturday, August 5 at 7:30 pm. Tickets are available by calling our box office at 919-459-8144 or online at NCFCTix.com.
