Cary, NC (February 22, 2017) – Canada Soccer announced that North Carolina Courage goalkeeper Sabrina D’Angelo is part of the Canadian Women’s National Team roster for the 2017 Algarve Cup in Portugal.
D’Angelo most recently appeared for Canada in the Bronze Medal Celebration Match on February 4 in which Canada defeated Mexico 3-2 in Vancouver.
The Welland, Ontario native made her first appearance for the Canadian Women’s National Team on March 4, 2016 against Belgium in the Algarve Cup in Portugal. D’Angelo was also on Canada’s roster when the team won a bronze medal at the 2016 Summer Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro.
Canada won the 2016 edition of the Algarve Cup, its first appearance at the tournament since 2003, with a 2:1 victory over Brazil in the final match of the women’s international competition. Canada reached the final after winning Group A with six points. Canada went on to face Brazil three more times in 2016, splitting a two-game home series in June before defeating Brazil for the Bronze Medal at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
The 24th edition of the invitational 2017 Algarve Cup will take place March 1-8. Canada faces Denmark on March 1, Russia on March 3, and hosts Portugal on March 6, with the final match scheduled for March 8.
Twelves nations will participate in the 2017 Algarve Cup with matches to be played on March 1, 3, 6, and 8.
