Six Courage players represent home countries in November friendlies
International duties are ramping up in preparation for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, and six North Carolina Courage players have reported to their respective national teams for this month’s fixtures.
Goalkeeper Casey Murphy will join the USWNT in South Florida for a pair of friendlies against long-time rival Germany on Thursday, Nov. 10 at DRV PNK Stadium in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. (7 p.m. ET on FS1) and on Sunday, Nov. 13 at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J. (5 p.m. ET on ESPN). The USA and Germany have met 33 times, the most matches against any European team besides Norway and Sweden. The USA is 22-4-7 all-time against Germany.
Forward Rikke Marie Madsen received her first call-up for Denmark since her stint with the squad at the 2022 UEFA Women’s Euro Tournament in London last summer, and will join the Danes for outings against Switzerland on Friday, Nov. 11 (1 p.m. ET) and the Netherlands on Tuesday, Nov. 15 (2 p.m. ET). Madsen signed with the Courage late in the 2022 NWSL season, making her debut for the club in their match against OL Reign on Sept. 17.
Fresh off individual career years, Brazilians Debinha and Kerolin Nicoli get back to work for their homeland in a set of clashes against reigning Olympic gold medalists Canada on Friday, Nov. 11 (1:30 p.m. ET) and Tuesday, Nov. 15 (1:30 p.m. ET). Midfielder Debinha netted a single-season career-high 12 goals and four assists for the Courage this season, and was named a finalist for NWSL MVP for the regular season. Forward Kerolin Nicoli made her mark in her first NWSL season, contributing six goals and four assists in the regular season, and earning NWSL Best XI Second Team honors.
Midfielder Fuka has joined Japan for camp and a European tour with fixtures against England on Friday, Nov. 11 (2 p.m. ET) and against Spain on Tuesday, Nov. 15 (2 p.m. ET). Fuka tallied two goals and an assist after signing with the Courage in the summer and making her club debut on Aug. 13.
A staple in the Courage midfield, Denise O’Sullivan will take the field with the Republic of Ireland once again, this time in a single bout on Monday, Nov. 14 (12 p.m. ET) against Morocco. The Republic of Ireland made history in October, sealing the deal on their first ever FIFA Women’s World Cup appearance with a playoff win over Scotland. O’Sullivan has 97 caps with the senior squad and has scored 19 goals for Ireland in that span.
