Cary, NC (November 19, 2021) – The North Carolina Courage have announced that Denise O’Sullivan and Diane Caldwell have been called to represent the Republic of Ireland during the November FIFA International Window. The Republic of Ireland will play in a series of World Cup qualifying matches, including contests against Slovakia on Thursday, November 25, and Georgia on Tuesday, November 30.
On the international stage, Denise O’Sullivan has scored 13 goals for Ireland, and in 2015 was named the FAI Senior International Player of the Year. Later, in November 2019, O’Sullivan was named The Irish Times/Sport Ireland’s Sportswoman of the Month. Most recently, O’Sullivan tallied a goal that propelled the Irish national team to a 2-1 victory over Finland. For the Courage this season, O’Sullivan appeared in 24 matches and clocked 2,085 minutes of playing time. She also registered twelve clearances, eleven blocks, and 49 interceptions while maintaining an 85.5% passing success rate and logging thirteen key passes.
Caldwell has registered 83 caps with the Ireland national team, scoring four goals. The defender joined the Courage in early 2021 and has since appeared in seven matches for 603 minutes of playing time. This season, she collected 22 clearances, four blocks, and seven interceptions while maintaining an 81% passing success rate and winning 50% of her attempted aerial duels.
O’Sullivan and Caldwell will report to the Ireland National Team Training Camp on Sunday, November 21.
