CARY, NC (December 4, 2021) – North Carolina Courage forward Lynn Williams will play in Australia with Melbourne Victory FC during the NWSL offseason on a short-term loan until January 7, pending international clearance.
“I am so excited to play for this amazing club in Melbourne,” Williams said. “I have always loved Australia, the culture, the vibes and the people! I am also excited to be with my partner, Marley Biyendolo who is based in Australia, and can’t wait to play in front of our family on this side of the world!”
Williams appeared in eighteen matches for the Courage this season, all of which were starts. The forward clocked 1,608 minutes of playing time in total, scoring seven goals and collecting two assists, twenty key passes and 59 total shots while maintaining a 95.7% success rate in tackles and a 66.7% passing success rate. The Pepperdine alum also broke two NWSL records this year, becoming the league’s all-time leader in career assists and shots taken.
“We are excited for Lynn to have this opportunity to play in Australia,” Head Coach Sean Nahas said. “Last time Lynn was playing in this league, it allowed her to maintain a level she strives to be at. She wants to continue to grow each day and is always searching for ways to improve. To do so, playing is important and the consistency of playing in the off-season will help in providing her those opportunities. I also know how important it is for her off the field on a personal level with Marley in Australia. Having been away from each other due to the pandemic, this time for her is truly what’s most important, so we are happy to see this loan through.”
Melbourne Victory FC play in the A-League (formerly the W-League), and kick off their season on Sunday, December 5 against Adelaide United. Williams will return to the North Carolina Courage for the 2022 season.
